Anorexiawet for France

France passed a law in the fight against anorexia. Encouraging anorexia is a criminal offense and can lead to 2 years in prison or a fine of 30,000 euros.

France is the first country in the world where the stigma of criminality is extremely slim. Reason for the measure was the death in 2006 of a Brazilian model. She died of the effects of the loss.

The law is mainly directed against pro-anorexia websites which give advice on extreme weight loss. The French fashion industry and the parliament last week concluded an agreement which should lead to models on the catwalk are looking healthier.

"Who wants on the catwalk, will also have to keep a certain weight", stressed Minister of Health Roselyne Bachelot.
